How to install Play Store on a phone without Google services

Phones imported from China, custom ROMs and devices without Google: how to find what's missing and install Play Store in the right order.

Play Store can't run on its own. It needs two system components you don't see on the home screen: Google Services Framework and Google Play services. A phone "without Google" is missing one of them.

Common cases

  • Phones imported from China (Oppo, vivo, Realme, OnePlus, iQOO, Meizu) with a China ROM.
  • Custom ROMs such as LineageOS.
  • Uncertified tablets and TV boxes.
  • Huawei and Amazon Fire have their own guides: Huawei and Amazon Fire.

Step 1: find out what you have

  1. In SettingsApps, enable Show system.
  2. Look for Google Services Framework, Google Play services and Google Play Store.
  3. Search Settings for "Google": some China ROMs have a toggle like "Google Basic Services" that enables components already included.

Step 2: install what's missing, in order

  1. Google Services Framework for your Android version.
  2. Google Play services for your Android version and CPU (arm64-v8a on almost every phone since 2019).
  3. Google Play Store: 53.2.23.
  4. Restart, sign in and wait a few minutes on Wi-Fi.

Install the store before its dependencies and it will close on launch or show error RH-01.

Step 3: check the result

In Play StoreSettingsAboutPlay Protect certification. "Not certified" means the store may work, but banking, payment and streaming apps may refuse to open. For custom ROMs, Google offers registration at google.com/android/uncertified.

Custom ROMs

On LineageOS and similar, Google components should be flashed as a system package from recovery right after the ROM (MindTheGapps, NikGapps or whatever your ROM recommends), or replaced with microG. Mixing methods usually ends in sign-in loops.
